COLLECTION POLICY

Image Rights & Reproduction

Guidance for viewing, studying, citing, requesting, and reproducing images presented by the Walker Art Collection.

RIGHTS INFORMATION

Artwork & Copyright

The Walker Art Collection presents original works by Rodney Walker through its digital museum and institutional programs. The Collection has identified Rodney Walker as the current rights holder for the artworks. The formal legal and administrative structure for rights stewardship is still being established; rights information may be updated as documentation is finalized.

Ownership of a physical artwork, copyright in the underlying work, and rights in a particular photograph or digital reproduction can be distinct. Rights and attribution for specific images are subject to their individual records and any applicable third-party interests.

Except where otherwise stated, website access does not transfer copyright or grant a license to reproduce an image.

VISITOR GUIDANCE

Viewing, Research & Fair Use

Visitors are welcome to view the Collection online, study the works, and link to the Collection’s public pages. When discussing or citing a work, please credit the artist, artwork title (when verified), Walker Art Collection, and the source URL as appropriate.

Downloading or viewing an image does not by itself authorize redistribution, publication, merchandise, commercial use, adaptation, or licensing to others. Such uses may require prior written permission from the applicable rights holder.

Nothing in this policy limits uses permitted by applicable law, including fair use and other statutory exceptions. Attribution alone does not replace permission when permission is legally required.

PERMISSIONS

Request an Image or License

For scholarly publication, journalism, exhibition materials, documentary projects, educational distribution, commercial reproduction, or higher-resolution files, please submit a request through the official contact page.

Please include the work’s title or collection identifier (if available), intended use, publication or platform, anticipated audience or circulation, requested resolution, territories, and duration. The Collection will review requests individually and identify any necessary permissions, credits, fees, or restrictions. No license is granted until expressly authorized in writing.

IMAGE INTEGRITY

Public Access & Archival Masters

Images shown publicly are access reproductions intended for on-screen appreciation and research. They may be resized, compressed, or otherwise prepared for web presentation. High-resolution capture files and preservation masters are not made available through the public museum as a matter of routine.

Image files may carry identifying or rights metadata. Such metadata can be removed by downstream systems and should not be treated as the sole indicator of copyright status. Visitors should not infer that an unmarked image is free to use.

RIGHTS CONCERNS

Unauthorized Use & Corrections

To report a suspected unauthorized reproduction, attribution error, or rights concern, please use the contact page and provide the relevant image or object identifier, location of the use, and supporting details. Reports are reviewed individually, including consideration of lawful exceptions and third-party rights.

Rights and attribution information may be corrected as collection documentation and legal arrangements develop. This page provides general institutional guidance and is not legal advice.
