ABOUT THE COLLECTION

An Artist-Founded Cultural Institution

Founded in 2020, the Walker Art Collection is an artist-founded cultural institution in formation dedicated to the preservation, interpretation, study, and presentation of Rodney Walker's artistic corpus. The Collection brings together more than 3,100 works and related objects and seeks to preserve both the art and the knowledge surrounding its creation.

OUR MISSION

A Living Archive for Future Generations

The Collection's mission is to preserve the complete artistic corpus, establish durable documentary and scholarly systems, and support meaningful engagement through exhibitions, authorized museum editions, publications, research, education, and controlled public access.

THE FOUNDER

Rodney Walker: Artist and Cultural Architect

Rodney Walker's multidisciplinary artistic practice explores music, movement, memory, identity, architecture, cultural history, and the expressive possibilities of line, color, form, and gesture. His sustained inquiries develop across interconnected series rather than isolated compositions.

ARTISTIC PRACTICE

The Walker 48-Work Method™

The Walker 48-Work Method™ emerged from protective portfolios containing 48 sleeves. Over time, the 48-work cycle became a sustained method of artistic inquiry: a coherent body through which ideas emerge, recur, transform, and resolve. Each cycle may also inform future exhibitions, publications, and research.

PRESERVATION & LEGACY

Institutional Stewardship

The Collection is developing integrated systems for documentation, cataloguing, conservation, museum-grade digitization, scholarship, exhibitions, and long-term preservation. The original works are held within the protected Collection; external exhibitions ordinarily use authorized Walker Museum Editions.
