Understanding the Bach Gestalt
Created from actual works within the Walker Art Collection, the Bach Gestalt demonstrates how 48 individual artworks may be presented together as a unified visual composition. Each work maintains its own artistic identity and place within the larger body of work. Viewed collectively, the arrangement offers another perspective on relationships of color, movement, rhythm, contrast, and visual continuity.
This Gestalt is an illustrative example—not a prescribed configuration for every 48-work series. The original artworks remain the primary artistic and archival objects; the Gestalt offers an additional interpretive perspective for studying the complete series.
